Black Walnut table Black base
In 2016, I was asked to make a tabletop for an IKEA kitchen island. A-couple of years passed and my clients decided to rebuild the entire base along with adding live-edge on the existing top.
The base of the table was built from oak and stained ebony black. The base was then finished white. With oak pores being very large, the white finish stuck to only specific areas of the wood. The mix of staining and finishing with the textured wood is one of my favorite technic practices as it adds a modern flair to an otherwise overused wood.
This table was placed in the kitchen and is still used every day. When entertaining, the table is wide enough to arrange all the appetizers along with the main entrées. This table is the work-horse of the kitchen, never going a day without use.
I believe every slab is a natural work of art and should be preserved in the most delicate way possible. A live edge is the unhindered natural shape cut directly from a tree. When working with raw slabs we give careful attention to the live edge portion of the slab to preserve its natural curvature and aesthetic.
This table was designed step-by-step in conjunction with our client who commissioned this table. This item has been sold, but if you are interested in a similar piece or have a vision of a project, don’t hesitate to contact us.
