Epoxy Barn Wood Table
With each of our projects, we aim to build a piece of furniture that is not only beautiful but functional in every home. The conversation started with the homeowner needing a dining room table. He had a barn from the 1850s and wanted to keep the memory of this beautiful timber frame structure. Half of the barn was starting to collapse from water damage. We had rummaged through the barn wood and pulled out what we could salvage. Most of the wood was in very rough condition. After getting the wood professionally dried to kill any bugs and stabilize the wood it was time to start the real work. After getting the wood to the workable condition it was time to finish the table we went with an epoxy coating over the wood to maintain the structural integrity of the lumber as most of it was cracked and falling apart. We used extremely high-grade epoxy with UV inhibitors so it wouldn’t yellow with age. With some of the leftover barn wood, we decided to make a bench to match the table. The base for both was made from hard maple and dyed to match other existing furniture in the room. What we were left in with the end was a table that will be used for generations and makes you take a step back in time. Throughout the whole construction process, I was envisioning the hard men and women that had harvested this lumber for the barn. I wonder if they thought about it in almost 200 years their family would continue to appreciate their hard work.
A true time capsule of history!
